The Best Relaxation

I love my guitar – it has to be the best stress reliever that I know. It doesn’t matter how tough a day has been, the moment I play that first note and listen to it sing out, I feel the tension lessen. Soon it will be gone completely as I immerse myself in the construction of a new melody or playing an older one, listening to the notes flow together, the chords resonating, feeling the rhythm through my body.

I will generally start on the acoustic if I’m thinking of a new song, and then graduate to the electric if I feel inclined. Some days I only play for 15 minutes, but it is enough to relax and get rid of the trials of the day; it’s like a sort of soundwave massage.

So, I recommend you take up an instrument of some sort. You don’t have to play it well (just ask my wife!), just listen to the pure notes echo through your mind, smoothing it, soothing it, lifting it. I reckon you’ll find that it works. Give it a go.

About George Fripley
I am a writer who enjoys writing humour, satire, poetry and sometimes a bit of philosophy. I live in Perth, Western Australia and occasionally get a poem or article published. It's all good fun! I have two books available for unwary readers, Grudges, Rumours and Drama Queens- The Civil Servant's Manual (This contains all that anybody could ever want to know about why government runs so slowly) and More Gravy Please! - the Politician's Handbook.
